First, let’s talk about What are PSU’s?
PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings) are the companies that are owned by the government either fully or through a majority stake in them. Most of the PSUs are involved in industries that require massive investments and are necessary for public welfare, such as the Oil Industry, Banking, Power Industry etc. Examples of some PSUs are IOCL (Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.), BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd.), ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd.) etc.
Now, for the majority of us, the problem is that we do not fall in the category of toppers so we think that we are not going to get placed or recruited in any PSU and don’t even give a try. Here is the problem which stops an average student from getting placed in a PSU. Now let’s see the selection procedure of a PSU.
How a PSU selects Candidates from us only
There are two ways in which a PSU does its selection.
1- Through GATE Score: In this case you have to go through GATE exam and get a good score in it as with good score you get better chance to get recruited in a PSU. Well, we would suggest you go through this process as most of the PSU’s have started recruiting through GATE and the remaining some are also changing their recruiting process and selecting candidates through GATE. Here are some of the companies that recruit through GATE.
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd.
Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.
National Fertilizers Ltd.
2- Through their own exam: In this case you have to go through PSU’s own exam which is made up of 70% technical part and the remaining is aptitude which includes General Awareness, Reasoning and Aptitude, Current Affairs and English Reasoning. However, we do not consider going through this process as day by day companies are leaving this process of recruitment so this is very risky.
How You can get Placed in a PSU ?
Here comes our most important question which needs to be answered that How you can get selected in a PSU.
So, now let’s talk some sense that PSU’s came into existence in about 1950’s and 1960’s and they placed people in them in bulk as they were new and unestablished but now in 2016 they are well established. Now, the good thing is that the people who got placed in 1950’s and 1960’s are now getting retired so there is going to be a need for more people to take their place and this is why this is the perfect time to start preparation for PSU’s for getting recruited in them.
The second thing which needs to be taken care of is that most PSU’s recruit through GATE and the others are also joining them so basically the value of GATE is getting increased day by day. But there is a loophole here that most of the toppers of the GATE every year do not join PSU’s and go for higher studies due to which the chance to get recruited in PSU comes to average scorers and also if you are a good multitasker and can handle yourself then you can easily be recruited in a PSU and the only thing you need to go for is preparation of GATE exam to get an average score and then get recruited.
