The much awaited notification of the year GATE 2020 schedule has been released. The detailed notification about GATE 2020 has been released by IIT Delhi. This year GATE 2020 will be conducted by IIT Delhi. Hence, the official notification can be found on the website

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering) is conducted every year by one of the IITs in the country. The test is conducted for higher studies of engineering candidates as well as for recruitment into various PSUs. GATE 2020 will be conducted for total 25 papers including statistics which was introduced in 2019. It will be a computer based test and nothing much have changed in the test conduction way for GATE 2020. Importance of GATE exam 

With so much hype about GATE 2020, the big question of the hour is why so? So for the unversed, GATE exam is the stepway to a great career for every engineering candidate. Firstly, it provides an opportunity to get admission into premier education institutes for higher engineering studies. Secondly, PSUs of India hire candidates based on the GATE score. Moreover, there are few PSUs which don’t even take their personal interviews and directly recruit candidates based on their GATE score.

Candidates who wish to apply for GATE 2020 are advised to check thoroughly the eligibility criteria based on various parameters. Lets check out the parameters to be considered.



Qualifying Degree

Qualifying  Degree / Examination

B.E./ B.Tech / B.Pharm      

Candidate must be a Bachelor in Engineering/Technology (4 years after 10+2 or 3 years after B.Sc./ Diploma in Engineering / Technology)        


Candidate must have completed Bachelor of Architecture (5 years course) 



Candidate need to have completed Bachelor of Science degree (Post-Diploma/ 4 years after 10+2)        

Pharm.D (after 10+2)        

Candidate must have completed 6 years programme having internship or residency training during sixth year as part of it        

M.Sc./ M.A./ MCA or           



Candidates need to have Masters in Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Applications, or   equivalent        

Int. M.E. / M.Tech.           



Candidates should have done Post- BSc Integrated Master’s degree in Engineering or Technology (4 years programme)        

Int. M.E. / M.Tech. or Dual Degree (after Diploma    or 10+2)        

Candidates should have completed Integrated Master’s degree programme or Dual Degree in Engineering or Technology (5 years programme)        

Int. M.Sc. / Int. B.S.-M.S.        

Candidates applying must have completed Integrated M.Sc. or 5 years integrated B.S.-M.S. program        

Professional Society Examinations* (equivalent to B.E/ B.Tech/ B.Arch.)        

Candidates need to have completed B.E./ B.Tech./ B.Arch. Equivalent examinations of Professional Societies, recognized by MHRD/UPSC/AICTE (e.g., AMIE by Institution of professional courses  Engineers-India, AMICE by the Institute of Civil Engineers-India)    



There is no age limit for appearing in the exam.


  • Candidates applying for the exam should be Indian citizens.
  • Moreover, the candidates from Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri-Lanka, Ethiopia, Singapore and UAE can also apply for the exam.


How to Apply

Applications for GATE 2020 will be accepted through online mode. To apply for GATE 2020, follow the following steps:

  • To start the process, candidate has to register on the GOAPS portal first. The candidate is supposed to fill basic information like name, email id and mobile number. It is advised to choose a strong password and to remember it at the same time. After registration, an enrollment number will be generated.
  • After this, rest of the details will be filled. Under this step, you will choose the subject you are giving GATE 2020 in.
  • Uploading the photograph and scanned signature is done in this step. For the candidates applying under a category, they need to attach the category certificate here.
  • Last step for applying for GATE 2020 will be to pay the application fee. Payment can be made online via credit, debit cards or net banking. Application fee varies for different candidates.
